The IAEP is mourning longtime IAEP Local 187 AMR Los Angeles member, President and EMT Victor Ordorica, who passed away this week after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Ordorica served as an EMS professional for over 30 years, and as IAEP Local 187 President for a decade. He is remembered for his boisterous, jokester personality and relentless dedication to improving the lives of his coworkers through his union work.

“He was a good guy who tried to make things better for us and took on the role as our Union President when he didn’t have to,” said fellow Local 187 member Taun Tanaka. “He was always trying to look out for us and would fight for us.”

Our thoughts remain with those who knew and loved Ordorica in the wake of this devastating loss.

Victor’s family is asking for donations to assist with funeral and memorial expenses. You can learn more on Victor’s GoFundMe page.

Our brother dedicated his entire life to serving his country, saving lives, and helping others without ever expecting anything in return,” wrote Victor’s sister, Monica Rivera, on his GoFundMe page. “Now, we humbly ask for the support of the community whose lives he touched, so we can honor him with the dignity and respect he earned.”

Rest in Peace, Victor.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
