Local 121 Raises the Alarm: Union Busting Over Patient Care

The International Association of EMTs and Paramedics (IAEP) Local 121 representing the EMS professionals of Medix Ambulance Services in Lewis County, WA is raising the alarm over Medix management’s investment of its time and resources into union busting instead of patient care.

For nearly a year, the Employer has committed to treating us as adversaries rather than the professionals who provide prehospital care to this county. Our Union members have been terminated, punished, lectured, and faced changes to policies and changes outside of the status quo simply because the Employer refuses to accept our Union status.

The amount of time, energy and financial resources being redirected from patient care into fighting a union is appalling.

Our attached letter and timeline to the Lewis County Board of Commissioners details a clear pattern of disrespect, disregard, and dishonesty on behalf of the Employer over the past ten months.

Your providers ask for your attention and assistance in improving working conditions and holding the Employer accountable – the lives of the people of this county quite literally depend on it.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
