The IAEP received a Certificate of Recognition from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) this week in honor of the Union’s work to secure federal funding for the World Trade Center Health Program and the Victim Compensation Fund through the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act and the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

Alanna Badgley, the IAEP’s EMS External Affairs Coordinator, attended Senator Gillibrand’s Morning With Labor event last month to receive this recognition. The event celebrated the procurement of full federal funding for the World Trade Center Health Program.

“The Senator was honored to have the opportunity to recognize the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics and National Association of Government Employees, among other unions, not only for the sacrifices made by our first responders in the wake of the September 11th attacks, but also for your collective advocacy, dedication, and partnership with the Senator and our office over the years,” wrote Jacinta Chen, a Senior Advisor from Senator Gillibrand’s office.

The certificate acknowledged and celebrated the IAEP’s members and leaders for their bravery, resilience, and service.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
