The IAEP is deeply saddened to announce the death of longtime IAEP Local 95 member and paramedic William Phil Krause, who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer at age 61 this month.

Krause was an EMS provider for Worcester EMS (WEMS) in Massachusetts for over 25 years, and an staunch union supporter for over 15. He is remembered for his big, infectious smile, larger-than-life personality, booming voice and relentless dedication to advocating for and taking care of others.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, his sister, Gwenllian, his children, Will and Emma and his dog, Cody.

Krause was a true shining star of Local 95, as he was a true friend to all of his brothers and sisters in labor and a fixture of nearly every union meeting.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a trip to visit the first responders of Worcester without seeing Phil and hearing him laugh,” said IAEP National Director Phil Petit.  “The entire IAEP family mourns alongside the members of Local 95.  Our hearts and thoughts are with his family and everybody in his extended family at WEMS as they mourn their loved one and longtime colleague.”

Krause's friends and family fondly recall the bravery and optimism that carried him through life, throughout his treatments and beyond. They remember Krause for his ability to live each day to the fullest, embracing adventure by traveling with his friends and family, skiing, hunting, rafting and spending decades in service to EMS.

Our thoughts remain with those who knew and loved Krause-- including his friends, family, and coworkers-- during this incredibly difficult time.

Krause's loved ones have asked that those who are touched by his story donate to WEMS in lieu of flowers.

You can send donations to the Worcester EMS Relief Association PO Box 2661, Worcester MA 01613.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
