IAEP National Director Phil Petit attended a fundraiser this week hosted by First Responders for a Stronger NJ, a committee organized by the New Jersey State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA).

Petit gathered on Thursday night with other leaders of first responder unions, supporters of the first responder community and two New Jersey legislators-- State Senator Joseph P. Cryan and State Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo-- to raise funds for the committee.

The goal of First Responders for a Stronger NJ is to protect the rights of firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers as well as police officers and other public employees. The IAEP was more than happy to attend and help the effort to fight for these vital goals.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
