IAEP Sponsors National EMS Memorial Bike Ride

The IAEP will be a sponsor of this year’s Muddy Angels National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.

The event, which has occurred annually for 23 years, honors EMS providers by “organizing and implementing long distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve everyday, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty,” according to their website.

The first ride took place in 2001 when Boston EMS professionals rode from their home city to the National EMS Memorial Service in Roanoke, VA to honor their colleagues who had died in the line of duty. This year, the ride has five regional routes spanning from May to September.

The IAEP will specifically work with the East Coast route, which will take riders from Boston to Washington, DC from May 11 to May 17. The union will be donating money to host a dinner in Yonkers, NY for all the riders and support staff as the route goes through our Empress Local.

“Every year the IAEP is proud to work with the Muddy Angels and our member-riders around the East Coast who participate in this great event,” said IAEP National Director Philip Petit.  “The National EMS Memorial and the mission behind the Annual EMS Memorial Bike Ride is a match with the vision and goals of the IAEP and it’s always special to sponsor an event that has such a positive impact on our members and the professional community as a whole.”

Those who would like to join the East Coast ride can sign up here.
