IAEP Fights for Part-Time Employees with Escambia County EMS

The IAEP has been working diligently to ensure part-time employees of Escambia County EMS are getting the respect they deserve and are to be included in the bargaining unit. Management has previously claimed these employees should not be included in the bargaining unit because they are expendable. We understand that every employee should be equally respected for performing the same job duties and have a voice in the work place.

The Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) has heard our argument and ruled that part-time employees will be included in the bargaining unit.  According to the commission, part-time employees share a community of interest with full-time employees and while working both forms of employees are indistinguishable. All employees are subject to the same medical protocols and procedures, and perform the same duties even though their pay and benefits differ. The commission claims part-time employees show reasonable expectation of continued employment and should be included in the proposed unit.

The IAEP will continue to be an advocate for EMS professionals and will continue to keep Escambia County EMS informed on their election process as more information becomes available. We thank these professionals for their continued unity and solidarity. Voting to form a union with the IAEP is not only a vote for respect and equality, but a vote for your future!
