Local R1-95 Works Closely with EMS Labor Alliance ON National Report

December 17, 2010

Members of the Local 95 Executive Board, representing the EMS professionals of Worcester EMS of Massachusetts, are getting an opportunity to play a bigger role with the EMS Labor Alliance in improving the EMS profession on the national level.

Recently, EMSLA approached Local 95 to contribute to a new EMS White Paper report that the group hopes will reach the desk of President Barack Obama.  Seeking a complete update of the previous report, EMSLA has asked Local 95 members to describe their experiences as professionals in a hospital-based EMS system.

“The members of the Local 95 Executive Board were honored to be offered the opportunity to be a part of this report,” said IAEP Communications Officer Philip Petit.  “The local takes this responsibility seriously and is eager to do what they can to help fight for the rights of their fellow EMS professionals around the country.”

Dating back to 1966, the initial White Paper is a landmark in the development of the EMS system in the United States.  The document helped shape the EMS system across the country, influencing federal regulations and the way grant money is distributed to EMS agencies.  The previous report, however, is in dire need of updates to reflect the current state of the EMS profession and the continuing changes that affect the system as a whole.

“This is a huge opportunity for all of us to join our voices together to help create some positive changes for the EMS profession at a federal level,” said Petit.

The IAEP will keep you updated on the progress of the new EMS report as more information becomes available.  If you are interested in learning more about EMSLA and how you can become more involved in fighting to improve the EMS profession as a whole, please visit their web site.
