Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps Joins IAEP Family
August 23,  2011

Congratulations are in order for the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps (EVAC), from Ellington, Connecticut, for voting to become the newest members of the IAEP family. The members of EVAC voted overwhelmingly in favor to become unionized.

“We are now seeing a trend in services that were originally volunteer only, that are now converting into services with full-time paid staff,” said IAEP Director of Organizing Bryan Hamrick. “This was a busy group who was determined to become unionized and we are thrilled to welcome aboard those who work for EVAC to the IAEP.”

The men and women with EVAC will now work together with the IAEP to gain not only better benefits, but a stronger voice in the workplace.

“This was one of the last groups of employees in the town that was not unionized, so we were happy they took advantage of the opportunity and decided to vote,” said Hamrick. “This new local gives us growth in an area of Connecticut that the IAEP already serves.”

The IAEP congratulates all of the members of the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their decision to take an active role in their workplace through vote to unionize.
