Members of Local 252, EMS professionals with Community Care Ambulance Network of Ohio, held a picket on June 18 at the company's Ashtabula, OH headquarters.
Over 60 EMS professionals took part in the picket, which was held in response to management's continued refusal to engage in constructive bargaining. These EMS professionals also recently held a strike authorization vote to allow them to move forward with plans to strike should management not return to the table in good faith during the next negotiating session scheduled for June 22.
Among a number of issues, management continuously refused to consider the union's proposals on wages, health insurance benefits and paid time off.
"These first responders are life-saving professionals who are simply asking for a fair wage and reasonable health insurance benefits," said IAEP National Representative Christian Cloen, who has led negotiations alongside the Local 252 Negotiating Committee. "Unfortunately it doesn't appear management has taken us seriously at the bargaining table."
Union members have filed numerous charges with the National Labor Relations Board due to what the union believes is retaliation from management against negotiating committee members.
"Management's actions throughout contract negotiations have been deplorable, and the union believes they have even resorted to retaliatory actions against bargaining team members," said IAEP National Director Matthew Levy. "The IAEP has filed ULPs and will continue to seek legal solutions to these ongoing issues."
The EMS professionals of Community Care Ambulance are hopeful that management will avoid further job actions, including a strike, by returning to the bargaining table to negotiate in good faith.
