EMTs and paramedics at American Medical Response, Inc. in Las Vegas voted by an overwhelming 98 percent to ratify a new contract in early April.
"We solidified a good economic package during an economic crisis and we did a major overhaul of the rest of the contract, too," said Chris Cloen, chief negotiator. "I think that now AMR and our members can work towards the kind of relationship that will help us build longevity in our careers, and that ultimately helps the people of Las Vegas with superior EMS service."
Negotiations over the past six months had been contentious, but Cloen said that both management and union members had recommitted themselves to working out an equitable agreement in recent weeks. The result, he said, is a contract with major improvements in non-economic language, such as clearer, stronger protections for members in grievance/arbitration procedures, disciplinary matters, and other practices.
The EMTs and paramedics at AMR Las Vegas are being serviced by the IAEP in an agreement with their local union, SEIU Local 1107.
