IAEP Members Involved in Fatal Ambulance Crash

On Monday night, October 10, 2017, 24-year-old Marina Gayledeste Challeen, an EMT and member of IAEP Local R7-799 died in a tragic ambulance crash in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Susanna Grace Kelly, a 27-year old IAEP member and EMT who was driving the ambulance, was taken to North Memorial Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The HealthEast ambulance crashed into a stalled semi-trailer truck while westbound on Interstate 694, according to Fox 9 news reports. The ambulance was not carrying patients. The driver of the semi, identified as 44-year-old Paulette Alicia Mejia of Temple, Georgia, was not injured during the incident.

The IAEP encourages Local R7-799 members in Minnesota who need support or assistance to contact their local union representative. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and coworkers of the young EMS heroes involved in the crash.

Funeral Services for EMT Marina Challeen will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Services will be located at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, MN.
