HJR 7105 Means Decreased Funding for Florida First Responders

Emergency service agencies may suffer if Joint Resolution 7105 passes in the Florida Senate. HJR 7105 seeks to increase homestead property tax exemption, which at first glance seems beneficial for residents in that area. However, this bill would lower the funding for first responders serving those same Florida homeowners.
“It sounds great to get a tax break, but this proposal will take away money from essential community services. Not only will EMS suffer, but local fire and law enforcement will lose too,” said IAEP National Director Phil Petit. “Our members in Florida dedicate their lives to their communities, and we want to make sure they receive the funding needed to continue providing top notch services to their patients.”
The IAEP is asking its members and all Florida residents to call your Senator today to protect essential services needed in your community. Find your senator by clicking here or calling the Division of Law Revision and Information at (850) 488-4371, and ask them to vote NO to HJR 7105.

The IAEP will continue to keep you updated with any further developments or news regarding this bill.
