IAEP Holds Connecticut Legislative Conference

March 20, 2008

The IAEP recently held it first ever Connecticut Legislative Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell, Connecticut.

IAEP National Director Matthew Levy, Training Director Dick Anderson, National Representative Steven Weigand and Connecticut Legislative Director Bob Shea were joined by members from all across Connecticut and New Jersey.

Members in attendance received steward training from Anderson, which included the best practices of stewards, Weingarten rights and how to best communicate as a steward. Iaep Attorney Michael Brady discussed effective grievance procedures and further explained stewards’ rights in the workplace.

“This was a great opportunity to bring together our members and begin creating legislative goals for the IAEP in Connecticut,” said Levy. “Not only were we able to establish some real areas of concern for our members, but those in attendance also received professional training that will help them moving forward as stewards or just as informed union members.”

Shea led the group in discussions regarding areas of concern for EMS professionals in Connecticut and how the IAEP can help try to change or improve these issues. Among the top issues of concern were diesel engine idling restrictions as well as gaining a seat on the Connecticut EMS council.

The IAEP thanks everyone who participated in the conference, and looks forward to working with our members to achieve the goals discussed.
