Following AMR management’s refusal to offer a fair wage and health benefits, the members of Locals 187 and 77, EMS professionals with AMR in Antelope Valley and Los Angeles County, officially went on strike at 8 am this morning.
“The decision to strike is always the last option,” said Levy. “Our members are deeply concerned with public safety, and are simply asking management for a livable wage.”
The 300 EMS professionals of AMR in Antelope Valley, San Gabriel Valley, Santa Clarita and Lancaster are striking over management’s continued refusal to pay them the fair wages they deserve, and continue to offer unacceptable benefits. The members of International Association of EMTs and Paramedics Local 187 and 77 are also striking due to managements multiple labor law violations and unfair labor practices.
The members of Locals 187 and 77 will picket beginning at 8 am today at AMR's Irwindale (5257 Vincent Ave) snd Lancaster (1055 West Ave. J) operations.
Despite AMR’s assurances, the IAEP and the EMS professionals of Locals 187 and 77 are concerned with the viability of AMR’s contingency plan, and feel that the level of service provided will drop noticeably.
“AMR’s plan relies too heavily on outside replacements and other agencies within their service areas,” said Levy. “Their plan cannot possibly maintain the quality level of services that the residents of these areas expect and deserve.”
The strike will continue until management responds to the requests of these professionals and creates a fair and livable contract offer for the men and women protecting residents across Los Angeles County.
