EMS Professionals In Los Angeles Set For Strike

The members of Locals 77 and 187, EMS professionals with AMR in Los Angeles and Antelope Valley, California, are set to strike on Monday, April 28.

The decision to go on strike follows AMR’s recent last, best and final contract offer. After the threat of a strike became clear, management’s offer still did not include acceptable wage increases or adequate and secure health benefits. Since first announcing a planned strike beginning on May 2, the IAEP decided to push up the start date to avoid tension and the creation of a negative work environment.

“The IAEP stands behind our members’ decision to strike, and hopes that management will finally treat them with the dignity and respect every professional deserves,” said IAEP National Director Levy.

Management with AMR is also pushing for language changes to the contract proposal that would allow them to off-set health insurance costs by changing providers and increasing co-pays and deductibles without bargaining with the union first.

The members of Local 77 and 187 hope that management will make a better offer, but are prepared to strike for as long as it takes to get a fair offer from management to.

“Our members will stand strong together until management recognizes the hard work they perform to protect and save lives every single day,” said Levy.
